I don't draw (or color) scenes. Wanna know why?
I have drawn a few scene pages. One was for a coloring contest and two were for a friend.
They take a lot of planning and execution time. There can be several iterations before I reach that magical "done" moment.
And that moment? That's where the dopamine is.
When I'm looking to get lost in details and spend hours drawing or coloring, I reach for my detailed mandalas, Jewedeedoodles, or Always Asymmetrical patterns.
But when I'm looking for quick wins and wide open spaces, I'm drawing or coloring icons. I can move through them quickly, getting little hits of dopamine as I go.
That's also why I don't tend to add lots of extra details while coloring. Not because I don't love seeing them, but because my brain is already celebrating being finished.
Like this one. It'll be done soon and I already love it.
It's one of the reasons so many of my books focus on objects, collections, and icons rather than full scenes. They're simply more fun for me to create, and more fun for me to color.
