I was in a coloring slump.
In January 2026, I decided to start earnestly trying to color through as many of my books as I could.
I've always colored sporadically, but I know that coloring my own books helps me make future books better. I notice little things as I color that I don't always notice while I'm drawing.
So I decided it was time to take coloring more seriously.
I colored more than one image a day in January.
Close to an average of two a day in February.
March was largely spent digitally coloring pages for book creation.
Then April arrived, and I started to peter off.
By June, I'd colored one page all month. I didn't even finish it.
Today is July 30, and I finally completed that same page.
Heres the thing: slumps happen.
Whether it's coloring, drawing, reading, knitting, gardening, or any other hobby you love, sometimes your brain just says no for a while.
That doesn't mean you've quit.
It doesn't mean you'll never enjoy it again.
Sometimes it just means it's time for a break.
For me, that break lasted a couple of months.
And today, it felt right to pick my markers back up.
Here's the page I finished. It's from Jeweldeedoodles: Easydoodles Volume One.
Maybe tomorrow I'll color another one.
Or … not.
